Dreams Unfolding

It’s an experiment, putting these raw contents out there and not hiding them in the privacy of a journal, perhaps shared with closest friends, perhaps an analyst. Others are doing it: you can too at dreamjournal. I’ve been recording my dreams for over a decade and when I decided to take this plunge into bloggerdom, an interesting aspect of what the poet Charles Olson predicted fifty years ago suddenly seemed possible to me. “The private will be public.” He was never talking about the confessional genre of poetry that was developing around him, but instead the interior realms that he too explored, charted, and sung of throughout his prolific mythic voyage.

Now, I’ve learned it’s not wise to be cavalier with the Unconscious. And while this venture has little risk to me in the outer world (everyone who knows the blogospere can attest, readership is built one reader at a time for quite some time and the viral potential of the medium does not suddenly descend on each and every postkeeper, if ever it does), it would be wrong not to acknowledge that in the alchemical sense, I’m playing with fire.

The next question that jumps up, who would want to read these anyways? I’ve been following the search word dreams on tweetscoop for about three weeks now and I’m convinced it’s a lively topic. Add the the general interest those who are committed to Jung’s teaching about individuation: for dreams are the royal road to the unconscious.

The question that was most interesting to me heading into this exercise was how will Psyche respond? The first series of twenty two dreams recorded over the last month are the evidence of the answer. Now that I’m launched, I’ll begin adding to my reflections in the comments field one os series one dreams. Wonder where series two will go…
