“Seeing through the veil of illusion…”

“Break on through to the other side…”

And conversely:

“I just have to get home to Kansas…”

“Welcome to the Hotel California…”

Opposite perspectives on the same boundary.  Either the ego standing at the doorway, desiring to step beyond into the realm of the wholly other: or a sense of submersion into the realm of Oz, with a desire to find terra firma in the commonplace.  In either case, “the doorman says, feed your head, feed your head…”

My experience: keep your drugs, your oriental exercises, your extended fasts; nothing works better than to turn ones attention to the dreams we have. Developing the practice that Jung called the transcendent function reveals why dreams were called “the royal road to the unconscious” by Freud.

When developed, the ego stands in relationship to the vast unconscious “as if” on equal footing.  Through cultivation a dialogue emerges where both parties have there say.  The veil remains intact, but communication flows in both directions across the border.  We begin to live an imaginal, not imaginary, life.
