I’m a Lame Duck with Search

w00t?

Time and time again I find myself caught up in bad pre-Internet search habits when trying to find content. The latest example is silly, but it serves so well to make my point.  So I’m watching the Twitter stream the other night and someone uses “w00t.”  No big deal I think, and here’s the first sign of the problem, the I think, and reverting to my school day practice I begin hunting for where I’ll find what I need.  What book would contain the info I was seeking? I approach the little search bar that rides in the center of the google page with this search: on-line acronyms.  I then visit three pages with wonderful lists, but alas, none contain w00t.  Of coarse, all I needed to do was search on w00t, and the answer I was seeking would have popped up right on the search results page.

Well, I’m making it a goal of mine to improve these skills so that someday I’ll be able w00t the search bar when it repeatedly delivers what I’m after with one click.   Here’s where I’ll begin my study of search.
