Invitation to the Journey

The beckoning hand of Rodin’s St. John the Baptist caught my attention this past weekend during our visit to the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia.  So much of Rodin’s expressiveness is overt and direct, that the subtlety of the gesture, the drawing toward as if lifting those around him into new life, led me to a deeper appreciation of Rodin’s artistry.

I took this photo so that moving forward I can carry the insight it provided me.  To truly lead others is just as Baudelaire’s poem is titled.  It’s all about “the invitation to the journey.” I first saw Rodin’s works twenty five years ago.  I am able to gauge how much I’ve changed in that time by how differently I now view his figures.

Which works of art that provide this kind of perspective over your life span?

    Such an interesting post.

For me, the most puzzling thing is that I no longer enjoy paintings by Rothko. For me, that's further evidence that there is no lasting love.
