Countering “Don’t Tread On Me” Thoughts

Not far from our house is a New York State Forest Preserve property named Crystal Lake (no, not the one of Friday the 13th lore).  Pictured above, the lake provides primitive camping sites, swimming, fishing, and tremendous blueberry picking near the end of July.  

I point this out here because my mind has been playing some tricks on me lately.  I’ve been so wrapped up with what our government has does wrong.  All that has happened has been pulling at some dormant anarchist energies that want to form a revolutionary militia and fly a “don’t tread on me” flag.  

When I think of Crystal Lake, those energies are countered.  If that land was not protected, surely I would be excluded from enjoying it’s beauty.  Houses would line it’s shores and the do not trespass signs would be promenantly displayed as they are around other lakes in our area.  

I think times like these need a balanced approach.  Otherwise, we might throw the baby out with the bath water…
