You've highlighted an important motivation (for me, at least) behind engaging social media strategies - namely, giving expression to that which moves me, that which I think defines me. If a personal blog or twitter stream isn't authentic, I don't see the point. Of course, knowing that (or at least believing it) doesn't mean authenticity naturally follows. It's one of the ironies for me, actually. I have no motive to be anything other than authentic, yet as I begin this effort (I'm in my first 4 months), I still find it difficult.
