Resolve for the road

Dream- Like a movie watching of a guy on the road, perhaps a trucker, and he’s been separated form his loved one for a few years.  It’s clear that the few times they have spoken keeps his spirits up.  He tells me “The last time we spoke, about six month’s ago, she said she was fixing the place up real nice…”

Amplification-

The dream speaks of a heroic acceptance of the separation from the loved one, similar to the kind that occurs with soldiers and their families.  As I’m not in that situation, the dream seems to be pointing to the inner realm, and the slowing down of dream imagery that has been underway gradually since embracing this medium.

There’s an attitude of resolve to the endurance of the road which this dream is emphasizing, pointing out the hidden cracks in my own resolve as things continue to progress.

Who does the trucker represent to you? Adventurous spirt maybe. Truck driver is a lonly occupation. This dream seems to applify that emotion. You say you are in the dream but he is talking to you, which I agree could mean inner realm. Why is it important that you know he spoke to her 6 months ago? Something happen 6 months ago- maybe a personal journey you needed to take alone? Who is she? Anima? Was you journey a more Animus journey? Something you had to do alone, but when you get back to the place (your mind) all will be fixed- balanced?? Just my thoughts.

  • Jay, excellent pointers and indeed my analysis of what these dreams mean to me personally emerges through answering those questions. I've made the choice, at least for now, not to post the further steps of analysis in my dreams unfolding. As I state on the about page, this example of a journal is meant to show the steps leading up to an analytic session.

  • Hi Richard...

Is there such a thing as "Phantom Dreaming.?"

Really not sure where this came from but I thought it's worth exploring with you.

I know of "Phantom Pain" usually experienced by people who have had recent amputations...

  • Henie,
I've never heard it put that way, but an interesting concept. Dreaming in many ways is always that way, the sense that something is concrete and present when it exists in the imaginal, or what some have called the middle realm.

One of the biggest cultural challenges is to take the imaginal as more then "just the imagination" and to elevate our respect for these experiences, as can be seen in the Sufi culture.
