Initiation into the Pancake Mystery

This morning needs to be noted in the life and development of our almost eleven month old daughter.  She has crossed a major threshold in the ritual life of our family.  For the first time, when the stack of blueberry pancakes was delivered to the table, she partook.

Her embrace of the treat has the rest of us realizing we will need to start making double batches, but the smiles around the table as our newest member not only joined in, but shouted her pleasure, makes the extra effort of the double batch well worth it.

So here’s to Bridghid, who’s life will forever be changed now that she has experienced this sublime form of sustenance.

How right of you to make note of this occasion!

I am a long-time pancake devotee, stemming from the days when my mom would cook up pancake "Z"s and hearts. These days, my boyfriend and I cook pancakes a couple times each week -- whole wheat banana pancakes. Delicious with yogurt and honey on top, by the way.

Pancakes are a lovely way to savor the morning, in all senses.

  • Zoe,
...we make smiley faces (oh wait, emoticons) with the blueberries...
  • Ah, you instilled a gastronomic delight of memories for me with this post. I so enjoyed watching my girls "play with food" and try new things. Blueberry pancakes were a big hit, and my oldest still loves blueberries, and especially blueberry syrup.
As my girls got older (they are now 20 and 23), they had a lot of fun experimenting with cooking. My youngest makes a wonderfully fluffy waffle, and terrific French toast. Something for you to look forward to as your kids get older and they can cook for you.
    Cheers!
