Elements of Theatre: Suspense/Surprise

Playing this afternoon, I began to wonder just how few tricks there really are for the stage when you boil down the elements to the bare bones. The element of suspense and/or surprise certainly remains a core building block.

    The element of surprise is always part of our learning experience is it not?...and this is ultimately what makes us grow.

    Well, I can think of many who work very hard in the attempt to eliminate as much surprise as possible from their reality...perhaps a neurotic approach, but I agree that the unexpected seems to open the doors to new vistas and possibilities.
