Update on a blog transition…

Many of you who return here often seem to appreciate that I share whatever I learn or discover in my blogging and social media journey.  One of the things currently underway that you might find interesting is a substantial drop off in traffic since I reemerged from my illness a few weeks ago.  The drop has been about 50%.

I expected this to happen.  While sick I realized I needed to dig deeper into my “niche.” On one level this means less accessible content as I dig into Jung’s ideas and my own journey with them.  It also means dropping the easy traffic posts (i.e. posts about twitter and social media).  In some ways it’s a difficult transition, but I know it’s a necessary one if this blog is to continue to develop as intended. It has recharged my desire to continue the search for those I yet need to connect with.

Those that continue to find this content stream useful, I know you’re the ones I’ve been working for all along.

  • Hmm, very cognitive post.
Is this theme good unough for the Digg?
  • Really, someone gave this a digg...wonder why?
  • Precision is way better. You're target audience is what you truly want.
  • Absolutely right Demian, thanks for the insight.
  • I personally prefer the deeper stuff than the social media stuff. Hopefully this will also bring you the kind of results you are wanting from your blog too.

  • Wow, Duff and Ryan, Zoe and Detlef, Oliver, Jay and Jeb...and Chas again...
I didn't realize putting this post together I would generate this response. It surprised me s all I saw putting it down was that I was being consistent with sharing what I'm learning here. It means a great deal to me that you all expressed your support in this way. Time to hunker down and get to work!
  • I sense entelechy at work...and I like it.

  • Hey Richard, as for myself, I am here to be inspired by your psychological/ philosophical posts, and to enjoy the comfortable, reassuring emotional climate you created here, which is deeply interwoven with your persona. Congratulations on that. I believe those are the fundamentals to build a house on.

Thank you for sharing the numbers. I would have expected your traffic to rise, as those few posts during your illness were very personal and the concern for your health seemed to create a community.

It's a difficult choice when you realize your traffic wants something else than you want to produce - if you intend to make money, anyway. It's complicated enough to create content that produces traffic and when that traffic finally comes, to say: sorry, please come for different reasons - that's hard to do. I had to do it with my activities in German, but I didn't even have a choice, because my creativity would no longer go into that direction.

No choice after all: creativity is an adventure. I hope to see where it will take you/ us.

I've been away for the past 10 days, but I'm happy to see that you're focusing on what truly drives you. I'll be sticking around, as it's always a pleasure to read words that stimulate new veins of thought as yours do...
  • Oliver
Your writing is interesting for me because it can stand apart from the popular stuff. I have great respect for what you are doing. Thank you for continuing to share your knowledge and perspective.
  • Jay
Your knowledge of Jung is what made me follow you in the first place, and I can go to 50 sites about twitter, etc. but there is only one Richard Reeve, and I visit him daily for everything Jung. Thank you.
  • Frankly, Richard, your value was never rooted in your knowledge of the tools of the (social media) trade. Were those posts helpful? Sure. But when you write about the things that are clearly of great personal interest, that's your unique voice coming through, and it's one I've yet to see paralleled in my travels around the web.

I hope the SocMed Gurus will forgive me on this one, but online marketing and social media tips are a dime a dozen. Yours is a voice that stands alone Richard. That's why I'm here.
  • yes yes yes...deeper into the perennial...
  • Thank you for the support Chas.
