What’s in a name?  Take mine: Reeve.

  1. (historical) A local official, the chief magistrate of an area.
  2. (Canada) The president of a township or municipal district council.
  3. The female of the Ruff.
  4. (nautical) To pass a rope through a hole or opening.

Low level leadership, a she bird, and a fascinating verb, an idea that develops for me into a spiritual practice.

I sense how my activity in social media is a type of reeving.  The data bloom we all participate in digitally is quickly taking on the dimensions of an ocean.  We are all scattered in our various places, but by throwing each other “lines” and fastening them into our lives, we connect.

When Liz Strauss asks about the ROI of relationships, it’s grabbing hold of these digital ropes we throw each other that makes the connections tangible.  I’ve had enough people introduce themselves to me this weekend because they recognize me from twitter to cement the idea that the digital is a form of the actual.
