Google tipped it’s cards this week and I finally got around to taking a peek at what they laid on the table.  The vision is an exciting one that will radically open up the way we can share information and collaborate on ideas.

I watched the first thirty minutes or so of the wave preview video and it became clear very fast that this tool (and others like it if they emerge) will change the landscape of our on-line interactions.  There’s many neat features.  I found the real time simultaneous co-editing by multiple authors to be pretty mind blowing.  What do you think?

  • That's a great way to put it Adele. It applies as well to how I help
folks approach what they find overwhelming about twitter and the not

being able to \"keep up\". It takes a letting go and some trust that

the needed connections will emerge, much like the open-mindedness

needed to consult the I Ching and gain access to the powerful

relationship that can emerge through the hexagrams.

I think wave will expand and centralize our capability.
  • Thanks for posting this. I would have otherwise missed it. I had to take 3 breaks and 2 glasses of wine to get to the end. Not boring, but overwhelming and in a lot of places beyond me on the technical jargon level. On a conceptual practical level, mind blowing. I think this has enormous use for business communication and teaching. A class run on wave would be fascinating. I think I'll give one myself on the I Ching.

The Wave is Synchronicity in live action.
  • For business and organizations it will be huge. I'm confident of that. Can't even begin to say how much time is wasted in clumsy email threads on the business side of things.
  • The concept they said guided their work was to recreate email if it were to be invented today with all the tools we now have at our disposal. The idea of being ale to go public our private based on the nature of the communication from the same dashboard just seems so right to me when I consider all the time I now spend typing...
  • Looks interesting, specially for some business aps I can imagine. But privacy might be an issue. Hard to tell as of yet.
  • I learned about this earlier today for the first time. It's amazing how quickly things are moving. It did get a little confusing for me and I raised an eyebrow about all the real time stuff. ie. your blog readers seeing you type word by word? I spend a lot of time rewriting and editing so that seemed intense.

I look forward to seeing where it is going....exciting for sure.

I didn't watch the introduction video, but I read through a few posts about Google Wave. I have to say, I'm not quite sure what to think ... it seems fascinating and overwhelming at the same time. I can't wait to try it out and see...

The emphasis on real-time makes me hesitate, because I think it's a valuable feature that should be used in moderation -- I don't think perpetual access to real-time communication is good if it means we lose the ability to sit down and craft something alone sometimes.

It's kind of parallel to the way that I love Twitter, but feel a bit uncomfortable on days where I've used it "too much" -- perhaps I don't want to fall prey to the need for constant response/feedback...
  • It will be possible to block the real time feature in each and every instance. The other thing that was so fascinating was the playback feature, so that you could watch the addition of each edit from the beginning and see who was adding what...
  • Zoe
Oh, that's great to know. As for playback... wow, that really is fascinating. I'm sure it'll be quite the learning curve for many, but so are most game-changers...
  • Hey Richard,
I'm one of those people who needs to get their hands on something before they have an opinion. I understand the concept behind Wave but won't have a clear idea about the impact and whether I like, until I try it.

For instance, I don't want to abandon twitter for it. It's unclear to me whether you can integrate twitter directly into Wave. If you could that would be great. I like the idea of it though.
  • I do not think its about abandoning twitter...but instead integrating our communications where ever they may occur.

As an intuitive, I love exploring the visions before the realities...
  • Dan
In the second half of the video it does show that you can integrate Twitter directly into a Wave. It's so jam packed with uses that I got a bit confused by the end of it. I think it will probably be a great tool, but may take some time to get my head around all the applications for it. Looking forward to it either way.
  • I couldn't stick with all the video either...my head was swimming.
