“Most of all, you get to choose who will understand (and who won’t)” ~ Seth Godin, Tribes, pg. 118

As I enter into the home stretch of my first year learning and implementing these tools to pursue my vision, I’m struck by this last line in the section of Tribes titled “The Posture of Leader.”  Experience tells me that this statement is absolutely true.

All the how-to’s take us to a place where we can become effective with the media.  I’m full of gratitude to those that are out there committed to helping folks over the hurdles.  Much of the first leg of my journey in this space consisted of sharing all that I was learning about social media practice.

The second leg of my journey was taking the risk to abandon the how-to and to take up residence in my vision.  The effect was at first disconcerting.  Daily the visits here began to drop.  It seemed I was loosing my efficacy.  It was scary. Then I began to realize that it wasn’t my efficacy that I was loosing, but the efficacy borrowed from those I was learning from.

The results have been true.  Those of you who still find what I’m doing here of interest are the definition of who I’m doing this for.  From the day last July when I made the commitment to this space,  I knew I had begun a five year journey.  That’s what this vision will take.  As I approach the end of year one, I can honestly say that so much more has happened then I could have anticipated.

…and I really appreciate all of you that are sharing in this with me.

  • I think you nailed it.
  • Well, I'm not sure what you were doing before, but I've run across you since and have been enjoying quite a bit. Keep leading!
  • Hey Fred,
It's pretty easy in this space to build traffic by mimicking or

ghosting the content of those that already have traffic. In my

journey to gain proficiency with these tools, \"the means\" was very

much the end. While my learnings and sharings through that period

were authentic, they simply are not what I'm most interested in or

    passionate about.

That being said, there is clearly a market for those that want to

commit themselves to building content around the needs of the

    gateway...
