“Not without cause then is my mind perplex’d.” Euripides, Ion

Sometimes a text begins to resonate even before we get a chance to read it.  My approach to the Ion of Euripides has been such a journey.  Great discussions both the social media space and in person have preceded my entry into this lesser known drama of the young temple servant.

Luis provided some links in the comments of the previous post, and when I was exploring those resources the above quote jumped from the screen.  No line could more accurately define my current frame.  I should get it made into a bumper sticker.

The last time a text resonated into my life in this fashion was when I approached Hesse’s Magister Ludi: The Bead Game.

Have you ever experienced anything like this?  Do tell.

  • The word "resonance" is one of my most favoite words, Richard. Until it has been experienced, no one can have a clue as to the meaning, IMHO. The writings of Shantideva have that effect on me, and every time I open his work, I am thrilled, regardless of what page I turn to.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for sharing that Alden. It's goo to hear others enjoy such intimacy with their books.
