Bab’ Aziz, the prince who contemplated his soul (2006), is a visually stunning film that brings us into the poetic wonder world of the dervish.

Following the journey of the blind Bab’ Aziz and his granddaughter Ishtar through the desert as they seek a gathering of dervishes that meets once every thirty years, this portrayal of seekers authentically captures a variety of spiritual experiences while not shying away from the borderlands of insanity. As the multi-layered tales are interwoven and build upon one another, director Nacer Khemir succeeds in producing a symphonic like experience rich in insight and splendor.
